The Lecht is the lowest of the Scottish Ski Areas (2090ft) and is situated in the Eastern Cairngorms on the A939 between Tomintoul & Cockbridge.  Although it is the lowest, it is usually the first resort to open every year, as it only take a few inches of snow for them to open.  The centre started with modest beginning when a few portable tows were set up to take advantage of the good snow cover.  It has expanded over the years to now boast 15 lifts, which are made up of six small tows for beginners, eight poma's and a new three man chairlift that was opened in 2001.  Due to The Lecht's low height, they have also invested heavily in snow making machinery.  They have at least six mobile cannons they can use when the weather conditions allow.  Although the centre does not have many black runs, we love this place as everything is so easy to get to.  The ticket office and lifts are only a few steps away from the car park and the staff are very friendly.  Fresh news from the slopes is that a new main building is being constructed.  It should be complete for early 2004.

Comments About The Lecht.

Andy Willcock - 01/03/2002 We really like The Lecht.  It is the cheapest ski area in Scotland, the lifts, shops etc are all close to the car park and the staff are superb.   Although there aren't many runs for the experts, there are many challenging red runs along with some nice easy cruising blue runs.  Everythime we go to Scotland, we ski at The Lecht more than anywhere else.  It's Brilliant.
Andy Willcock - 30/06/2002 We have just got back from a summer holiday in Scotland, and we called at The Lecht to see what they have on offer throughout the summer months.  It was a superb day!!  For only £30.00 we were entertained all day long with Quad Bikes, Deval Karts, Buggies, etc, etc.  At the end of the day we were a few points short of having a Chairlift ride to the top of the mountain (You get a swipe card and put credits on the card for the different activities)  They let us go up anyway, and the guy at the top pointed out all the interesting sights that can be seen from the top.  A Truly Excellent Day!!!
